1 minute to understand the characteristics of brushless DC motors

A brushless DC motor consists of a motor body and a driver, and is a typical electromechanical integrated product. Brushless motor refers to a motor without brushes and commutators (or collector rings), also known as a commutatorless motor. As early as the 19th century, when the electric motor was born, the practical motor produced was the brushless form, namely the AC squirrel cage asynchronous motor, which has been widely used. However, asynchronous motors have many insurmountable defects, resulting in slow development of motor technology. In the mid-20th century, transistors were born, and thus the use of transistor commutation circuits instead of brushes and commutators in brushless DC motors emerged.
Characteristics of DC brushless motor:
1. Can replace DC motor speed regulation, frequency converter+variable frequency motor speed regulation, asynchronous motor+reducer speed regulation;
2. Having the advantages of traditional DC motors, while eliminating the carbon brush and slip ring structure;
3. It can operate at low speed and high power, eliminating the need for a gearbox to directly drive large loads;
4. Small size, light weight, and high output;
5. Excellent torque characteristics, good torque performance at medium and low speeds, large starting torque, and small starting current;
6. Stepless speed regulation, wide speed range, strong overload capacity;
7. Soft start and soft stop, with good braking characteristics, can eliminate the need for existing mechanical or electromagnetic braking devices;
8. High efficiency, the motor itself has no excitation loss or carbon brush loss, eliminating multi-stage deceleration loss and improving the comprehensive energy-saving rate.
9. High reliability, good stability, strong adaptability, and simple maintenance and upkeep;
10. Resistant to bumps and vibrations, low noise, minimal vibration, smooth operation, and long lifespan;
11. No sparks generated, especially suitable for explosive places, with explosion-proof type;
12. Choose between trapezoidal wave magnetic field motor and sine wave magnetic field motor as needed.
This new type of brushless motor is called an electronically commutated DC motor, which overcomes the shortcomings of the first generation of brushless motors. DC brushless motors have many characteristics and obvious advantages, which have brought great convenience to people's production and life.
